Mayor Lehman announced that the month of April is National Poetry Month and in honor of National Poetry Month, the 9th annual L3 Writer’s Conference will take place on April 23, 2016 at Barrie North Collegiate. He noted that the Conference will feature Mr. Shane Koyczan as a key note speaker. Mayor Lehman commented that the L3 Writer’s Conference is now recognized as one of the more unique and important literary festivals in Canada and that further information about the Conference can be found on the website l3writers.ca.
Mayor Lehman introduced Mr. Damian Lopes, Poet Laureate for the City of Barrie and to recite one of his poems in honour of National Poetry Month. Mr. Lopes advised that he and Mr. Derek Beaulieu, the Poet Laureate for the City of Calgary have issued a National Poet Laureate Challenge to poet to laureates participate in, by distributing another poet’s poem to their municipal Council.
