TMP-31146 1  Presentation - AC/RCPRESENTATION CONCERNING BARRIE TRANSIT’S NEW NETWORK VISION Mike McConnell, Business Process Lead (Transit) provided a presentation concerning the Barrie Transit’s new network vision. Mr. McConnell discussed slides concerning the following topics: · A summary of Barrie’s Transit Vision Project including the purpose and scope of the project; · The public engagements undertaken in 2021 and 2022; · The outcome from the first public consultation; · The Council approved guidelines for the new network vision; · Maps illustrating the proposed transit network, the accommodation for existing customers, and the improved frequencies for the network; · The public call to action response; · The outcome of second public consultation; and · The next steps and phase implementation. TMP-31156 1  Discussion ItemBECOMING A BIKE FRIENDLY CITY UPDATE Brett Gratrix, Senior Project Manager - Transportation Planning provided an update on the requirements that still need to be fulfilled in order for the City of Barrie to apply for designation as a Bike Friendly City. He explained that the absence of an Active Transportation Planner staff member is a one of the big contributors to the City not being able to achieve full designation. B. Gratrix advised of the job responsibilities of this type of position. The Committee discussed and asked questions and received responses concerning if the coordinator responsibilities could be added to another position in the City, potential cost sharing by sharing this position with another municipality, the position being hired as contract, if a coop student could fulfil the role, sharing the role and cost with Tourism Barrie and other responsibilities that this position could assume.   Action details Not available
TMP-31291 1  RecommendationINTAKE FORM FOR ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR That in consideration of Council strategic priorities of supporting active transportation and pedestrian connections, staff prepare an intake form for a full time Active Transportation Coordinator for consideration as part of the 2024 operating budget (to be included with the Staff Report) at an estimated cost of $120,000 per year funded a funding source determined by the Finance Department with the position being responsible for championing active transportation through the delivery of marketing, education and outreach programs focused on cycling and walking as well as supporting planning and implementation of the active transportation network.
