15-A-130 2  Student/Mayor ItemCOMMENTS FROM OUTGOING STUDENT MAYORS William Wang of Hillcrest Public School thanked Mayor Lehman and the members of Council for the opportunity to serve as Student Mayor. William indicated that he learned a lot during his term and that he had little knowledge of politics before his term. In closing, William commented that the meetings were awesome. Connor Wherry of St. Michael of the Archangel Catholic School thanked Mayor Lehman and the members of the Council for the pleasure and privilege of serving as Student Mayor. He stated that he learned a lot about municipal government and that he was surprised to learn as much as he did. He commented that he enjoyed hearing the presentation by the Central Ontario Music Council and to former Councillor John Brassard who is now an MP in Ottawa. He also indicated he learned not to get on Councillor Ainsworth’s bad side. 15-A-133 2  Awards and RecognitionPRESENTATION TO ALLISON BOBBETTE, RECIPIENT OF THE ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPAL MANAGERS CLERKS AND TREASURERS OF ONTARIO, ACCESSIBILITY FOR ONTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (AODA) 10TH ANNIVERSARY CHAMPION AWARD. Mayor Lehman called upon Allison Bobbette to present her with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) 10th Anniversary Champion Award. Mayor Lehman highlighted Allison’s advocacy, volunteer and mentoring efforts associated with bringing to issues associated with persons living with intellectual disabilities to the forefront during her youthl and adult years. Mayor Lehman detailed the recognition and awards that Allison has received, including a Certificate of Excellence from Eastview Secondary School, Gift of Heart award from Simcoe Community Services and a Youth Leadership Award from Greater Simcoe United Way. He also described her involvement and participation in the establishment of the Community Integration though Cooperative Education program for people with intellectual disabilities so that they could be graduate more readily into employm   Action details Not available
15-A-134 2  Awards and RecognitionRECOGNITION OF CIVILIANS FOR THEIR HEROIC ACTIONS RELATED TO A FIRE ON D’AMBROSIO DRIVE. Mayor Lehman called upon Alexzander Samuelsson, Devyn Samuelsson, Rylee Hart, Robert Graves and Corey Blowes to be recognized for their the heroic efforts during the fire that occurred at 101 D’Ambrosio Drive on July 12, 2014, and also invited Fire Chief Lynn to the podium. Mayor Lehman described the actions of each of the individuals who contributed to there being no casualties including, that Alexzander scaled the outside of the building and saved a woman living inside, that Devyn called 9-1-1, that Rylee and Corey knocked on doors to get everyone out of the building and that Robert pulled the fire alarm when it failed to go off. He expressed his gratitude for the clear thinking of the gentlemen and their presence of mind to help others. Fire Chief Lynn noted that it was an honour to recognize the efforts of the gentlemen. 15-A-135 2  Awards and RecognitionRECOGNITION OF THE 2015 SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS KETTLE CAMPAIGN. Major Doug Lewis of the Salvation Army’s Barrie Bayside Mission announced that the 2015 Salvation Army Kettle Campaign is underway. He discussed the partnership with the City of Barrie and the County of Simcoe allows them to assist the less fortunate. Major Lewis advised that 31% of their annual financial requirements are funded through the Christmas Kettle Campaign, that runs through the month of December. He expressed his appreciation for the volunteers and the number of hours they dedicate to supporting the Salvation Army’s causes. Major Lewis discussed how the funds raised support the Bayside Mission and other services that the Salvation Army provides to the community. He noted that all funds that are raised in the City of Barrie are used towards programs at the Bayside Mission and highlighted the programs and services provided at the Mission.
