Chair, Councillor, AM. Kungl provided an update concerning the 2025 Heritage Barrie Awards. Councillor Kungl advised that nominations are being accepted until November 10, 2025.
The Committee discussed the upcoming Heritage Barrie Awards, including award categories and criteria, nomination process, changing the type of award from photographs to artisan gift, and selecting the winners at their November meeting.

Liam Munnoch, Senior Planner (Housing) provided an update concerning the heritage designation of the nine properties, including the designation by-laws being adopted by City Council on September 17, 2025. The Committee suggested getting feedback from property owners about their experience through the heritage designation process and getting photographs of the plaques on their properties. Mr. Munnoch advised that he will engage with the nine designated property owners and report back to the Committee.

The Committee discussed the Doors Open Barrie event scheduled on September 27, 2025. Craig Froese advised that the Heritage Barrie Tent will be set up at the waterfront for Doors Open Barrie and that he will be providing walking tours of the military park. Committee members discussed delivering historic neighbourhood guides to Doors Open Barrie locations.
Councillor, C. Riepma thanked Amanda Dyke, Culture Development Officer and staff in Economic and Creative Development for organizing the 2025 Doors Open Barrie Event.
Deb Exel advised that she will be making larger edits to the Historic Neighbourhood Guides, and that printing of the guides is anticipated for 2026. | Received | |
