Sandy Coulter, Acting Associate Director of Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability, and Chris Marchant, Manager of Solid Waste Operations provided a presentation concerning the Blue Box Transition and Solid Waste Collection Contract.
Mr. Coulter and Mr. Marchant discussed slides concerning the following topics:
· The Province of Ontario’s enactment of the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act (RRCEA) and its requirement to develop a strategy for a Waste Free Ontario;
· An outline of the Circular Economy details and recommended municipal framework outlined to Council on May 25, 2020;
· Barrie’s Circular Economy Policy Framework approved by Council on March 22, 2021;
· The timelines associated with the Blue Box Program in order to be in compliance with the Ontario Regulation 391/21;
· A blue box transition comparison of eligible sources and non-eligible sources;
· A summary of Barrie’s blue box transition;
· An outline of the new solid waste collection contract effective May 1, 2024;
