Mayor Lehman recognized Major Stephanie Watkinson, Executive Director of the Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission Centre who will be leaving Barrie after over 4 years to work as a Core Officer at the North Bay Salvation Army.
He highlighted Major Watkinson responsibilities at the Bayside mission, including overseeing the men’s temporary emergency shelter for 26 men who are 21 years and older experiencing homelessness providing them referrals to treatment programs, life skills management, goal planning, aftercare supports. He also noted that in addition to the shelter, she oversaw family services including access to family services workers, and managed the Community Meal Program which serves lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
Mayor Lehman described that she was instrumental in organizing support for individuals in the coordination of donations of food and supplies who were impacted by the July 15, 2021, tornado on behalf of the City.

Mayor Lehman recognized the Barrie Colts Minor Atom AAA U10 and the Barrie Colts Minor Peewee AAA U12 Hockey Teams for winning the 2022 Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) Championships. He called upon Joe Rockbrune Jr., Vice Chair of Hockey Operations for the Barrie AAA Zone Hockey Association to join him at the podium to recognize both teams. Mr. Rockbrune provided highlights of each Team’s successful season.
Mr. Rockbrune acknowledged the hard work and dedication of the players and how well they represented the community, and City staff for their assistance to the hockey association.
