Sandra Brunet, Manager of Business Performance and Environmental Sustainability Committee provided a presentation concerning the Circular Economy: A New Approach to Waste Management that would support a more resilient and sustainable Barrie.
Ms. Brunet discussed slides concerning the following topic:
· The alignment of the changed approach to waste management with Council’s Strategic Priorities;
· The rationale associated with implementing a new approach to waste management;
· A description and definition of what a circular economy is;
· The Circular Economy (CE) vision;
· A chart illustrating the pillars of Barrie’s approach to Waste Management;
· The alignment of this approach with Federal and Provincial legislations, policies and strategies;
· The key challenges and opportunities related to the circular economy concept; and
· The next steps in implementing the circular economy framework.
