Hope from the Seasons Centre for Grieving Children was sworn into office as Honourary Student Mayor by Tara McArthur, Deputy City Clerk.
After being sworn into office, an audio recording of Hope’s address to the Mayor and members of Council was played.
Mayor Nuttall spoke about the Seasons Centre for Grieving Children’s initiative Hope Around Town, and Hope making a trip around our community and beyond to support children and families who are grieving.
Mayor Nuttall shared a recent experience from the Barn Burner charity hockey game event that Hope had visited as part of her tour. He spoke about a player at the event, Erik Gudbranson, who had the opportunity with his family to meet and take a picture with Hope and the Managing Director for the Centre, Rowley Ramey. Mayor Nuttall commented on Erik’s generous donation of $2,500 to the Seasons Centre for Grieving Children to help support children in our community, and the generosity Erik has shown.

Brent Harlow, Coach for the Barrie Colts U15AA Hockey Team spoke about the integrity, character, and hard work of the players, coaches, and families to make the season successful. Mr. Harlow provided highlights of the Team’s season and the achievements of the Team that led to the winning of the Ontario Minor Hockey Championships and becoming All Ontario Champions for their division.

Mr. Tran expressed his father’s goal to contribute to Canada’s development as it has always offered refuge to his family. He provided a brief background on the family-run development company as contractors and builders that are excited to start a new place and develop in the City. Mr. Tran discussed the original project that included townhomes, and through the process, the project will be building a condominium to help with the housing market.
Mr. Tran commented that his family resides in the neighourhood where the development is located and that they are very involved in the community and excited to see it grow.
