Councillor, J. Harris and Mark Sachkiw Co-Chairs of the International Relations Committee recognized Barrie’s Sister City relationship with Saginaw, Michigan. Mark Sachkiw discussed the mutual benefits and importance of the new sister city relationship, and its aim to develop economic opportunities to increase bilateral trade and facilitate connections between Barrie and US businesses. He stated that Saginaw shares similar economic interests and objectives as Barrie, and that the partnership with Saginaw marks the first Sister City relationship in North America for both municipalities.
Councillor, J. Harris provided a summary of the delegation’s visit to Saginaw, Michigan in May, 2024 for the official signing of the Sister City Agreement, which included attending the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Memorial Cup. Councillor Harris highlighted that preparations are taking place to invite a delegation from Saginaw to visit Barrie in the fall of 2024.

Lieutenant Colonel Dore and Chief Warrant Officer Geoff Rusconi on behalf of the 16 Wing RCAF recognized Rose Romita, Former Councillor Ward 2 for her 20 years of dedication and outstanding work and providing service to the community, which is the epitome of the RCAF values of loyalty, integrity, excellence, and inclusion. Lieutenant Colonel Dore and Chief Warrant Officer Rusconi presented Ms. Romita with the RCAF Centennial Coin.
