He discussed that until his term as Student Mayor, he was unaware of the time and effort that it takes City Council to make Barrie such a great City. Jackson noted that he underestimated the complexity of discussions and the different concerns of the residents. 16-A-043 2  DeputationDEPUTATION BY BILL SCOTT REGARDING MOTION 16-G-083, OFFICIAL PLAN AMENDMENTS, ZONING BY-LAW AMENDMENTS AND DESIGN GUIDELINES TO PROTECT THE CHARACTER OF THE HISTORIC NEIGHBOURHOOD AREAS On behalf of the Allandale Neighbourhood Association and the Historic Neighbourhood Strategy Committee Mr. Bill Scott provided a deputation in opposition to an aspect related to motion 16-G-083. Mr. Scott discussed the Historic Neigbourhood Strategy implemented in 2010 and congratulated staff on the current program and proposed design guidelines. He thanked staff for allowing the Association and Committee’s input as they were delighted by the outcome. Mr. Scott commented that there is one item within the proposed Guidelines that has been difficult to address related to additions to properties within the historic neighbourhoods. Mr. Scott discussed slides that illustrated photos of homes within the historic neighbourhood that he believes are associated with recognizing provisions that would address disproportionate additions in keeping with the character of the home and neighbourhood. 16-A-044 2  DeputationDEPUTATION REGARDING MOTION 16-G-082, SAM CANCILLA PARK GAZEBO REHABILITATION (WARD 2). Ms. Kelly Lester provided a deputation in opposition to motion 16-G-082, Sam Cancilla Park Gazebo Rehabilitation. Ms. Lester reiterated discussions by General Committee concerning the types of rehabilitation that should be considered for Sam Cancilla Park and the gazebo. She noted that she is aware that the park will receive a makeover in the next five years and provided suggestions for the $25,000 that would not be used as part of the proposed option, such as extending the asphalt path in the park to the road, or having Georgian College students paint a mural on one of the walls. Ms. Lester advised that she has seen young families use the swing sets. Ms. Lester also suggested if the park is re-graded consideration be given to a tiny stage/plateau to be used for cultural and children’s events. Ms. Laking advised that she was representing the late Sam Cancilla and his family. She discussed former Alderman Cancilla’s role in maintaining the park that now bears his name. Ms. Laking noted that if Mr. Cancilla was here he would want to save the gazebo. She noted that Mr. Cancilla was a historian, preservationist and she believes the gazebo needs to be reused.
