16-A-059 2  Student/Mayor ItemCOMMENTS BY OUTGOING STUDENT MAYOR Maeve Gormley announced that she was a Grade 8 student at St. John Vianney Catholic School and was elected to serve as Student Mayor from May 9 to May 30, 2016. She thanked City Council for providing the Student Mayor Program, as she had an enjoyable and educational experience. Maeve commented that she has a greater appreciation of the importance of public awareness and understanding of how City Council works and that their voice matters. She indicated that she will not be intimidated to communicate with members of the Council in the future as she has more awareness of Council’s proceedings and decision making process. Maeve observed the challenges that arise from planning growth in a municipality and the consideration that is given to existing homes and businesses during the process. 16-A-062 2  Awards and RecognitionRECOGNITION OF THE BARRIE MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION ATOM AE2; MINOR BANTAM AA; MINOR BANTAM AE2 AND MINOR MIDGET AA TEAMS FOR WINNING THE 2016 ONTARIO MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Mayor Lehman called upon the Coaches of the Atom AE2, Minor Bantam AA, Minor Bantam AE2 and Minor Midget AA Hockey Teams to join him at podium to recognize each of the teams for winning the 2016 Ontario Minor Hockey Association Provincial Championships. He asked each of the Coaches to provide an overview of their teams’ season. Mr. Marc Duval, Coach of the Atom AE2 Hockey Team thanked the members of Council for recognizing the Team. He commented that not many Teams have the opportunity to win back to back championships and noted his Team’s successes during the regular season and in the playoffs. Mayor Lehman recognized the Team members and presented certificates to the Team members who were in attendance.
