TMP-28181 1  Discussion ItemCOMMUNITY ANTI-RACISM INITIATIVES Rob Meier discussed systemic racism and the underlying undertones of racism present within the community. He suggested the possibility of putting forward a motion for the City of Barrie to become an anti-racist city. Donald Carty provided a brief background on the Anti-Racism Task Force established through a resolution by Barrie City Council and sponsored by Barrie Police Service. He advised the Task Force has a compliment of volunteers that were chosen to work actively with the community. Mr. Carty discussed the Task Force’s mandate to bridge and promote a stronger, positive understanding of anti-racism and the representation of racialized groups within the City. He advised that implementation of the mandate to be accomplished through awareness, education, accountability, and their five action themes to effect positive change: understanding, messaging, connecting, transitioning, and strengthening. TMP-28182 1  Discussion ItemGEORGIAN COLLEGE UPDATES Brian Muscat provided an update on the Georgian College Head Start virtual orientation to be held January 3 - 7, 2022 and classes to start on January 10, 2022. Mr. Muscat discussed a survey of students regarding housing, location, and price ranges to gather data on what student needs are returning to campus. The Committee discussed the City’s involvement in the student orientation in order to welcome new and returning students and to provide them with City information packages.   Action details Not available
TMP-28183 1  Discussion ItemCITY UPDATES Jason Forgrave, Supervisor of Enforcement Services provided an update on parking restrictions in the City. Mr. Forgrave mentioned that the overnight parking restrictions started December 1, 2021, beginning with a week of warnings, and will continue until March 31, 2022, seven days a week, regardless of weather conditions. He indicated that Enforcement Services is continuing to assist with COVID-19 restriction complaints such as masks, proof of vaccination, and the amount of people in certain locations. Michael Gallagher, Zoning Officer provided a statistical update of 820 city-wide zoning complaints from January 1, 2021, to date, with 45% located in the northeast end and 75% within proximity to Georgian College. He advised the complainants are generally associated to interior and exterior issues such as two-unit houses, accessory dwellings, boarding, lodging, rooming houses, vehicles being parked on landscape, commercial and accessory building location standards.   Action details Not available
