Christopher Vanderkruys, Director of Business and Development from the Barrie Public Library provided a presentation concerning the demographics of the City of Barrie through statistics gathered from Environics Analytics.
Mr. Vanderkruys discussed slides concerning the following topics:
· A map illustrating the City’s demographic area;
· Statistics associated to the City’s:
o Population and household information;
o Housing and income;
o Education and employment; and
o Diversity.
· The demographic statistic highlights associated to:
o Household and dwelling characteristics;
o Income, education and employment; and
o Language, immigration and visible minority status.
· The percentages for the top five segments of households in Barrie;
· A summary of the demographic statistic trends associated to:
o Population;
o Families;
o Household and housing;
o Income, education and labour;
o Diversity; and

Jessica Gourlie, Recreation Programmer provided updates regarding the reopening of the Parkview Centre, the re-introduction of programs, and the vaccine screening for the facility. She provided additional updates on the Seniors Without Walls programming, the Art Your Service access to virtual programs, the 55+ Centre website, and Allandale 55+ Centre space constraints.
Colin Green provided an update on the Gilbert Centre’s Seniors Program and the weekly groups, programs and activities offered by the Gilbert Centre. He noted that a newsletter is released weekly detailing events and workshops available.
Lucia Ricardo advised that in-person programs at the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) had been put on hold until January 2022.
Gwen Kavanagh provided an update on past and future events for the CARP Barrie Chapter. She discussed hosting two debates featuring the Barrie-Innisfil and Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte candidates, CARP’s first in-person meeting to be held September 21st, a presentation by Mayor, J.
