TMP-27995 1  Presentation - AC/RCPREVENTION OF SENIORS ABUSE AND AGEISM - HEALTH Pauline Luening and Laura Proctor from Prevention of Seniors Abuse Network - Simcoe County provided a presentation giving a closer look at elder abuse and prevention. Ms. Luening and Ms. Proctor discussed slides concerning the following topics: · The background and history of the organization; · The organization’s vision and mission statements; · The services provided by the organization; · An overview on the recent accomplishments funded by the 2019 Seniors Community Grant; · The next steps and future projects for the organization; · The definition of elder abuse and statistics according to the World Health Organization; · The risk factors and vulnerable groups; · Recognizing elder abuse; and · A summary of the types of elder abuse including financial, neglect, and physical abuse. TMP-27996 1  Presentation - AC/RCBARRIE FOOD BANK Sharon Palmer from the Barrie Food Bank provided a presentation concerning the Food Bank and serving Barrie’s vulnerable individuals and families. Ms. Palmer discussed slides concerning the following topics: · The vision, mission and values of the Barrie Food Bank; · An overview on the community funded charity; · Statistics associated to seniors using the Barrie Food Bank by age; · A bar graphs illustrating during the pandemic, the number of individuals and individuals 60+ that used the Food Bank from January 1, 2019 to October 31, 2021 and the costs of food and housing among low income earners in Simcoe Muskoka in 2019; · A summary of scenarios based on individuals and families in the County of Simcoe and monthly income, living expenses, nutritious food basket and food costs; · The low barrier access to food for Barrie and Innisfil residents; and · The food available at the Barrie Food Bank. TMP-27997 1  Presentation - AC/RCSIMCOE COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES - AGE-FRIENDLY Tracy Hill, Age-Friendly Project Team Lead Recreationist, Seniors Services, County of Simcoe, Georgian Village provided a presentation concerning the County of Simcoe as an age-friendly community. Ms. Hill discussed slides concerning the following topics: · An introduction of the Age-Friendly Simcoe County Team; · The World Health Organization (WHO) age-friendly initiative; · The WHO identified eight dimensions for an age-friendly environment; · The County of Simcoe 2018-2023 Age-Friendly Planning Framework regarding a Simcoe County Positive Aging Strategy for Older Adults; · The background and timelines completed in developing an age-friendly community; · The County of Simcoe programs and services supporting seniors during COVID-19 including Simcoe’s age-friendly website and 211 Ontario; · The Age-Friendly Seniors Housing Grant Program; · The Age-Friendly Business Guide and Recognition Program; · The changes in technology for seniors to use during the pandemic; · The key learning and pressures faced in supporting seniors    Action details Not available

TMP-27998 1  Discussion ItemSENIORS EVENTS/INFORMATION/UPDATES Gwen Kavanagh advised that the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) Barrie Chapter is continuing to work on the Seniors Community Fund to assist seniors living at or below the poverty line in the City of Barrie. Colin Green informed the Committee that he is leaving his position at the Gilbert Centre and on the Active Transportation and Sustainability Advisory Committee. Lucia Ricardo advised that the Nanji Family Foundation CNIB SmartLife Centre is continuing to offer a wide array of programming, one-on-one training with accessible technology, however no in-person groups. Councillor, A. Kungl discussed “Walk with Me” Wednesdays at the Georgian Mall offering a form of physical activity from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. before the stores open for business. She discussed other programs for physical activity such as drop-in programs, an All-Body Swims, pickleball, and facility resources for all ages.   Action details Not available
