John Northcote explained to the Committee that because of the challenges due to COVID over the last year for teachers, he did not approach schools regarding active transportation presentations. Mr. Northcote further mentioned that he currently does have two schools set up for this fall.

Councillor A. Kungl provided an overview of the Single Tree By-law discussed at the last City Council meeting.
Andee Pelan, Living Green Barrie summarized areas of concern regarding wording within the motion passed by Council.
Councillor A. Kungl discussed a recommendation to the City Building Committee for the September 21, 2021 meeting to look at the evaluation of best practices from other municipalities, the potential for a more comprehensive approach to mature tree protection, as well as public and stakeholder consultation.

Councillor A. Kungl mentioned beautification initiatives around the City and leveraging codes on the City’s website for people to visit and navigate the City to different destination spots. She inquired if QR codes could be incorporated into the communication strategy.
Brett Gratrix clarified that it is multi-departmental, but regarding cycling, it was something that could be looked at as part of the signage at trail heads. Mr. Gratrix expressed that it is not great from a safety perspective to have people slow down or stop on a roadway to do a QR code scan.
Wendy Loevenmark, Landscape Architectural Planner indicated to the Committee that her department is exploring incorporating QR codes and there is a plan to complete a pilot this fall for feedback.
