Ms. McKeown discussed slides concerning the following topics: · A request to attain the support of the Committee; · An introduction of the Barrie Bird Friendly team, members, member associations, and partners; · A background of Nature Barrie; · The Nature Canada certification aim; · Reasons for the City of Barrie to achieve a Bird Friendly Certification; · Why the City of Barrie qualifies for certification, the measures taken, the habitat protection, restoration, and climate resiliency; · The Bluebird and Tree Swallow projects; · Chimney Swifts and their habitat, survey statistics, and blitz counts; · Saving the Barrie Central Collegiate chimney; · Community outreach and education; · What does the City of Barrie need to do to finalize certification; · May 14, 2022 World Migratory Bird Day Proclamation; · How can the City of Barrie help going forward; and · Nature Canada criteria for a Bird Friendly City. Kelly Patterson-McGrath indicated that the sub-committee will be meeting to continue to work on event plans. Ms. Patterson-McGrath also mentioned that the applications for the event have been completed, no permits are required, and insurance will be provided through the City.
