2016 ORDER OF THE SPIRIT CATCHER NOMINATION PROCESS
The Committee met and discussed the 2016 Order of the Spirit Catcher nomination process and the Gala.
The Committee discussed expanding the call for nominations for the Award beyond individuals. The Committee agreed that that nominees and award recipients should continue to be individuals that reside in the City of Barrie.
The Committee discussed and concurred with the suggestion of the Barrie Community Foundation to highlight a charity as part of the Order of the Spirit Catcher Gala, with a portion of the funds raised at the Gala to be donated to that particular charity.
The Committee discussed methods to promote the Order of the Spirit Catcher Award Program including updating the poster to include images of both adult/youth, contacting the School Boards in May and September for youth nominations, and a separate webpage dedicated to the award including a list of past recipients. The Committee requested that the Deputy Clerk discuss these initiatives with Access Barrie.
One individual (Mr. D. Roskam) addressed the Committee and provided comments regarding the following:
• Including a list of the previous award recipients on the web page that promotes nominations; and
• Matters related to the selection process for nominations including validation of nomination submissions, the publication of the nominees and the composition of the previous Committee.
