PRESENTATION REGARDING THE VISION AND MISSION OF THE BARRIE HISTORICAL ARCHIVE PROJECT

 

Dr. Travis Doucette of the Barrie Historical Archive provided a presentation regarding the vision and mission associated with the Barrie Historical Archive Project. 

 

Mr. Doucette discussed slides concerning the following topics:

 

                     The vision and mission statement for the Barrie Historical Archive Project related to celebrating and preserving Barrie’s history through a free online archive;

                     The loss of historical buildings;

                     Photos of Barrie Central Collegiate both past and present;

                     The building of an online historical archive dedicated to the City of Barrie;

                     The initiation of the project through a Facebook Group entitled “If you grew up in Barrie you remember.”

                     The establishment of video archive and that the Archive has gained permission from CTV Barrie to access to their historic records;

                     Fundraising initiatives undertaken for the Archive’s annual budget;

                     The strength of the Archive’s volunteers and composition of the team;

                     The billboard located Downtown Barrie to promote the Archive;

                     Items that have been already been collected to be included in the Archive;

                     The official launch of the Archive on September 21, 2016;

                     The events that the Archive will be attending to promote its initiative, including the Barrie Central Reunion;

                     Funding sources and how the Archive will use funding received; and

                     A trivia game quizzing members of Council on their ability to recognize intersections from historical photos.

 

In closing, Dr. Doucette commented on the types of historic items the Archive is seeking and requested that the City of Barrie support and promote the Project.

 

Members of Council asked questions of the presenter and received responses.
