BARRIE FOOD BANK
Sharon Palmer from the Barrie Food Bank provided a presentation concerning the Food Bank and serving Barrie’s vulnerable individuals and families.
Ms. Palmer discussed slides concerning the following topics:
• The vision, mission and values of the Barrie Food Bank;
• An overview on the community funded charity;
• Statistics associated to seniors using the Barrie Food Bank by age;
• A bar graphs illustrating during the pandemic, the number of individuals and individuals 60+ that used the Food Bank from January 1, 2019 to October 31, 2021 and the costs of food and housing among low income earners in Simcoe Muskoka in 2019;
• A summary of scenarios based on individuals and families in the County of Simcoe and monthly income, living expenses, nutritious food basket and food costs;
• The low barrier access to food for Barrie and Innisfil residents; and
• The food available at the Barrie Food Bank.
Members of the Committee asked a number of questions of Ms. Palmer and received responses.
